When it comes to farm equipment manufacturers, Spalding, United Kingdom-based Horizon Agricultural Machinery is a relatively new kid on the block.
The company has a growing dealership across 27 countries and is making inroads into the strip till and planter market, notes Horizon’s technical lead and national agronomist Jon Myhill. With the growth of strip till in North America, Myhill says the company is open to the prospect of working with farmers across Canada and the U.S. would welcome an opportunity to establish a foothold for its SPX strip till cultivator on this continent.
In this report from Agritechnica, Myhill and RealAgriculture’s Bernard Tobin review features of the machine, which continues to evolve as the company draws on its 15 years of working with strip tillage. With this knowledge, Myhill says the Horizon SPX has been carefully designed with the ability to easily adapt to different applications and conditions.
Myhill explains that the mounted toolbar is directly attached to the tractor’s 3-point linkage, allowing the SPX to effectively follow GPS and ensure strip accuracy to match the needs of following planter operations. He also shares how pneumatically-controlled row cleaners with CleanSweep technology can be adjusted in-cab for quick and accurate adjustment.
Myhill notes how positioning, widths and angles of the deflector discs can be easily adjusted to provide multiple berm building options. The pneumatic consolidation system with in-cab adjustment also offers different wheel options for different soil types.
