Keep it simple and deliver field performance. That’s the message Great Plains is sharing with growers taking a look at the manufacturer’s PL5700 planter for 2024.
The planter features 5000 Series row units, and Air-Pro meters, and a positive air system that sets it apart from the competition by providing more accuracy with fewer headaches than vacuum planters, the company says. Designed on a rugged and maneuverable front-fold, telescoping-tongue design, the PL5700 handles well in the field and on the road. It’s available in 12- and 16-row configurations with bulk-fill or row-unit hoppers and an assortment of drives, fertilizer, and attachment options.
In this report fromAgritechnica, Great Plains export director Saskia Lehnert shares some of the features growers will see on the 2024 models, including a new hydraulic downforce system — SureForce by Ag Leader. It responds instantly to changing conditions, giving each row the exact pressure needed to plant at the ideal depth. Lehnert notes that the planter’s parallel linkage has been redesigned to accomodate the SureForce system.
AccuShot, Great Plains’ innovative fertilizer application system, is also available on the planter. This attachment lets growers feed each corn seed with a predefined dose of liquid starter, says Lehnert. The fertilizer is carefully placed right next to the seed for early uptake and maximum growth potential. The PL5700 also comes with a planter-trailing fertilizer cart for dry fertilizer application.
