Louis Dreyfus Company has announced plans to build a pea protein isolate production facility at the company’s existing location at Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
Construction on the pea protein facility is slated to begin this year and wrap up by the end of 2025.
The company has not provided any details on cost or processing volume, but says the plant will employ around 60 people.
The investment is “part of our plans to diversify revenue through value-added products – in this case, addressing growing demand for high-quality, nutritious and sustainable plant-based protein alternatives,” said Michael Gelchie, LDC’s Chief Executive Officer.
Saskatchewan’s Minister of Trade and Export Development, Jeremy Harrison, said the Louis Dreyfus announcement “takes us one step closer to achieving our goal of processing 50 per cent of the pulse crops produced in Saskatchewan. This announcement is great news for the Yorkton community and pulse growers across the province.”
LDC has operated a canola processing complex at Yorkton since 2009.
