Speed doesn't matter for Monosem's ValoTerra Ultimate planter

With a new brush-based seed guidance system, Monosem says its ValoTerra Ultimate planter can ensure optimal planting and depth at speeds of 2 to 18 kilometres per hour.

In this report from Agritechnica,  Monosem product sales specialist Flavien Cattoni explains how a new Active Seed Guidance system was developed based on a zero-gravity concept to ensure planting precision and versatility.

The seed’s journey starts in the metering box which is equipped with smooth discs, a patented insert and electric drive, all of which help increase precision at higher speeds. Seeds travel to a cellular loading wheel, which inserts them in the brush conveyor using a system of guiding rods. The rotating brush conveyor then guides seeds to the furrow at a rate proportionate to the tractor’s working speed, eliminating any bumps and vibrations.

Metering precision can be adjusted using the new Monosem Plus smartphone app.

Cattoni says discs for planting different crops can be changed in less than a minute per row. With the planter’s FertiSmart system, fertilizer can be applied at the required rate regardless of planter speed.

Cattoni says the ValoTerra Ultimate planter could be available to North American growers as early as 2025. See the report below.
