Precision Planting made its first venture into the sprayer technology market in North America in 2022 when it unveiled several products focused on improving sprayer operation and data collection.
Fast forward to 2024 and Tremont, Illinois-based company is now forging into the European spraying market with its Symphony nozzle control system — designed to maintain constant pressure across the boom when changing rates or speed.
In this report from Agritechnica 23, RealAgriculture’s Bernard Tobin and Precision Planting European sales manager Benoit Blateyron look at the technology that drives the Symphony system and why the company feels it’s a good fit for European farmers.
The Symphony nozzle control system is designed to pair with Precision Planting’s vision module for targeted spraying. While many sprayer nozzles have a change in pressure when sprayer operating speed or rate are changed, effecting droplet size, drift, leaf coverage and efficacy, the Symphony nozzle control system allows the sprayer to maintain constant pressure even when changing rates or speed.
Blateyron says the Symphony retrofit kit is attractive for European farmers because with the absence of herbicide-tolerant crops in Europe, “the quality of the spraying operations is really important to maintain, and make sure that we have an optimum yield potential” regardless of crop type.
Blateyron also notes that despite the general smaller size of European farms, many growers own their own sprayers to help mange larger rotations that typically include four to six crops. “They really want to make sure that their spraying operation is as accurate and as efficient as possible so we see a lot of interest from farmers around Europe.” See the video below.
