What makes a rubber cow mat unique? For German manufacturer Huber Technik it comes down to the fact that their rubber never meets the road.
In this report from the 2024 Canadian Dairy XPO at Stratford, Ont., the company’s owner Veronika Kamm says Huber Technik’s stall mattresses are made from only new tire compounds. “Our rubber has never been a tire. It’s just new rubber compound, which we get from Western European tire factories.”
Kamm says tires that are not up to spec are shipped to their manufacturing location in Erding, Germany, where the new tire compound is used to make a more durable cow mat. “In combination with the fabric, which we put underneath, it’s just a very, very strong and long-lasting material.”
Huber Technik was founded in the 1920s and made its first trip to CDX in 2024. Kamm is now the fourth generation of the family to lead the business, which has been producing rubber and metal products for almost a century and distributing them all over the world. She says North America is a very important market for the company, which now boasts two Canadian distributors — Agriclé in Quebec and Agri-Comfort in Ontario.
Kamm says Huber mattresses provide dairy cows with an ideal comfort surface to relax joints, enhance health and improve overall productivity. The company also takes a unique approach to distribution and installation by offering its product in rolls rather than individual single mats. “We’re doing everything on a roll up to 100 metres length, which makes installation quite easy.” (See the report below.)
