Deere eAutoPowr puts a charge into slurry application

In 2019, John Deere’s eAutoPowr concept arrived at Agritechnica touting the potential of the world’s first electric variable transmission. That year, the new transmission concept, developed through a partnership with Joskin, won Agritechnica’s gold innovation award.

Fast forward to Agritechnica ’23 and eAutoPowr was again attracting throngs of farmers at the innovation show’s John Deere location. The company now offers the transmission with an electro-mechanical power split option for its 8R Series tractors. In this report, Deere’s Sebastion Frisch explains how the company delivers a durable, high-performance tractor with an infinitely variable transmission in the horsepower class above 400 hp.

For the eAutoPowr, Deere has now completely replaced the hydraulic components with an electric power path. The electric drive is designed in such a way that it not only supplies the drive, but also provides up to 100kW of electrical power for external implements via 480V variable-frequency three-phase alternating current.

A first application has been developed by John Deere together with Joskin. In combination with the Joskin axle drive, two axles of the slurry tanker are driven electrically, using the weight of the tanker for traction. This creates increased traction, less slippage and precise tracking, says Frisch. Watch the video below.
