Making sprayers light and nimble and getting them in the field when farmers need them.
Those are some of the keys to the success of Massey Ferguson 500R Series sprayers, which hit farm fields for the first time in 2023, says Massey Ferguson product specialist Heath Kehnemund.
In this report from Commodity Classic at Houston, Texas, Kehnemund and RealAgriculture’s Bernard Tobin discuss the performance grades the new sprayers are earning from growers and some of the key features available on the two new models in the series — the 740-gallon, 212 horsepower MF 525R and the 860-gallon, 235 horsepower MF 530R.
Kehnemund notes that a flexible, modified carbon steel chassis provides agility and traction in even the most difficult field conditions. “We want that operator to be very comfortable in the field. We know this is their office and if they’re uncomfortable, they’re not going to want to be in it,” he says. “That flexible frame gives you up to 24 inches of travel in the field whether you’re running terrace, flat ground, waterways — whatever that may be – that frame is going to flex underneath that operator, keeping him comfortable, keeping the machine steady and the booms on target the entire time.”
The sprayers also carry an advanced chemical distribution system. The standard LiquidLogic system can prime in 50 seconds to reduce wasted chemicals and output costs and improve sustainability, says Kehnemund. With this closed loop system “we don’t have to spray any product on the ground, wasting that precious dollar and chemical to get this primed before we go out in the field. So you can actually go out into the field hot and ready to go.”
