Dairy farmers looking for consistently short-chopped straw for total mixed rations should take a look at Teagle’s Tomahawk 8250 bale processor.
There are lots of machines on the market that will give farmers chopped straw, but Teagle’s North American sales manager Andy Robson, says the Tomahawk “consistently” delivers the short-chopped straw that nutritionists want for dairy feed. In this report from the Canadian Dairy XPO in Stratford, Ont., Robson discusses how the machine consistently produces finished material cut at one-and-three-quarter inch finished length.
The Tomahawk 8250 is available in two models — mounted or trailed — and has been designed specifically to suit the needs of TMR and bedding applications. The machine gives farmers great flexibility, says Robson, including the ability to spread long or chop short with one machine. It can be used to bed loose housing and cubicles, as well as processing short straw for feed. He notes that the blade beam can be disengaged to allow material to be spread without chopping, or engaged at the touch of a button for short chop mode.
In the video below, Robson also looks at the Tomahawk’s new Synchro Wi-Fi control system which enables the operator to pause and resume the flow of material, again at the touch of a button.
