Technology is making it easier for nutritionists and producers to manage dairy cow diets.
Trouw Nutrition Canada’s DNA Connect is a new mobile app that allows feed managers to change dry matter levels and update diets with a click of a button. In this report from the Canadian Dairy XPO in Stratford, Ont., Elgin Feeds ruminant sales and nutrition advisor Erik DeVries takes a look at the app and shares how it can help better manage rations.
“It’s something that allows your nutritionist on-farm to push a ration directly from the computer to your phone in your pocket, which helps eliminate the need for emails and extra communication,” says DeVries. “It allows us to adjust dry matter of the forages directly within the app, and also allows us to monitor our feed intakes and record feed intakes as well as refusals, which can be key for improving efficiency on farm as well.”
Producers have the ability to evaluate mixing accuracy by group. They can manage and assign rations to each feeding group (lactating cows, heifers, dry cows), and review reports to track feeding trends. Watch the report below.
