After years of dry to extremely dry conditions in the pulse growing regions of Saskatchewan, it’s unlikely anyone is going to complain about a wet spring.
The shift from dry to more average or even wet conditions creates some fantastic yield potential for growers, but it also creates a perfect environment for root rots, including the dreaded aphanomyces in pea and lentil crops.
For this episode of the Pulse School, RealAgriculture’s Amber Bell heads to a pea field with Meagen Reed, agronomy manager with Saskatchewan Pulse Growers, to talk about determining if what is happening is in fact aphanomyces, how rotation plays a role in its management, and why testing to be sure is essential.
