Syngenta Seeds North America celebrated the grand re-opening of the Arva Research & Development (R&D) Innovation Centre this week, unveiling $2 million in renovations to the office and lab. The renovations mark the first significant update to the site in 30 years.

The Arva R&D Innovation Centre is located on a 100-acre site just north of London, Ontario. Owned by Syngenta legacy companies since 1989, it includes 30,000 square feet of office space and outbuildings where seed breeding, seed processing, and field research trials are conducted. New traits and genetics trialed at the site include NK corn and soybeans, Enogen corn hybrids, and Silverline soybeans.

“Investment in this facility will enable greater collaboration across the seed value chain, better product placement, more reliable performance, and ultimately result in higher yields for Canadian growers,” says Dan Wright, head, Enogen and Syngenta Seeds Canada.

The Arva R&D Innovation Centre employees 70 people and is just one of more than 150 Syngenta R&D and production sites worldwide with a combined investment of $1.4 billion (USD) annually.

“We’ve created an innovation ecosystem with facilities strategically located across North America. Much of our speed to market is attributed to the investment in our facilities and our talent,” says Eric Boeck, Regional Director NA Seeds. “We are driven and focused on improving germplasm performance, launching and stacking next-generation differentiated traits, and demonstrating sustainable cropping systems that benefit farmers, consumers, and our planet.”
