Depending on which side of the border you’re on, cut-out prices and placements drifted lower in the last two weeks, but stuck with seasonal trends, says Anne Wasko of the Gateway Livestock Exchange.
U.S. on-feed numbers are expected to climb by about 3 per cent year over year based on June data, while cash markets were steady to slightly lower as is expected for mid-July.
North of the border, heifer placements have been a bit of a roller coaster and lower cow kills means import of beef, especially for hamburger, was up in June by 15 per cent, most of it coming from Australia and New Zealand.
In this edition of the Beef Market Update, Wasko also shares some data on the Ontario kill numbers as Cargill’s Guelph plant was online a full week as of last Saturday.
