Six independent companies join MNP to launch agronomy service

by

Six independent agronomy companies are joining MNP to launch a new agronomy practice in a major shake-up of the Western Canadian crop advisory market.

MNP — one of Canada’s largest professional services firms — is bringing together 4R Agronomy, Annex Agro, Arrow Crop Management, Elite Ag, Max Ag Consulting, and Sure Growth Solutions to launch the new agronomy business, as of September 2024.

Each of these companies offer expertise in precision agronomy, technology management, and crop planning. Together they currently provide these services to more than 300 farms, covering over 1.5 million acres.

“MNP has been strong in helping clients financially for many years… and a lot of times it comes down to ‘how do we translate this into helping clients make the most profitable crop?’ That’s where we need to talk with agronomists to help clients grow the most profitable crop,” explains Marvin Slingerland, MNP’s new senior vice president, agriculture, in the video below.

Warren Bills, CEO and co-founder of Convergence Growth, will join MNP as a partner and the leader of MNP’s agronomy practice. The companies had already been in conversation with Bills about working together when the opportunity with MNP arose.

This model helps to bridge some of the gaps that have opened in agronomy service through consolidation, says Bills.

“MNP actually did the study that said the difference between a good farm and a great farm is about $100 an acre, and the great farms, they’re working with agronomists, and so we’re here to help good farms become great and add additional services to the bottom line with with MNP,” adds Bills.

All six companies will remain in their current locations and operate under the MNP banner.

While the initial launch brings together six crop consulting businesses, Slingerland says he sees potential for adding adding more agronomists across the country to MNP’s new agronomy service.

Six companies joining MNP’s new agronomy practice, with the location of their head offices:

  • 4R Agronomy, Brandon/Carberry, Manitoba
  • Annex Agro, Milestone, Saskatchewan
  • Arrow Crop Management, Regina, Saskatchewan
  • Elite Ag, Brunkild, Manitoba
  • Max Ag Consulting, Plenty, Saskatchewan
  • Sure Growth Solutions, Langenburg, Saskatchewan

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated EliteAg at Lacombe, Alberta was joining MNP. It is Elite Ag at Brunkild, Manitoba that is joining MNP.
