The AgSmart Educational Expo event hosted by Olds College of Agriculture & Technology will move under the AgriTrade Equipment Expo Group banner following a memorandum of understanding between the two entities signed earlier in September.
AgSmart first started in partnership with Agri-Trade in 2019 as an initiative of Olds College. The summer event is a trade show and also an extension event that allows the college to demonstrate some of the new technology and data that is up and coming within the agricultural industry.
Agri-Trade is a large scale equipment exhibition held annually in November at Westerner Park at Red Deer, Alta. The show attracts over 30,000 attendees and over 550 equipment manufacturers and agricultural services. Agri-Trade started in 1984 and generates an estimated $300 million annually in equipment sales and tourism spending.
In this new transition, AgSmart will still be held at Olds College and retain its educational roots, continuing collaboration with the college's Smart Farm, as well as promoting the college's applied research initiatives. The college will continue to contribute educational content, research and demonstrations to future AgSmart events, while Agri-Trade will be assuming full ownership of the event including its digital assets, brand, and historical content.
"Olds College has been proud to create and host AgSmart for the past five years, and we believe that this transition will provide even greater opportunities for innovation and learning within the agriculture sector,” says Todd Ormann, vice president, development at Olds College. “With Agri-Trade’s leadership, AgSmart will continue to thrive as a platform for technological advancements and education."
