When it comes to choosing the next best canola hybrid, there’s so much more to consider than yield. Maturity ratings and the disease package are also key, as is the herbicide tolerance trait for the required weed control.
To add one more level to the hybrid selection process, canola growers now have the option of choosing a stacked hybrid, with more than one herbicide tolerant trait all in the same plant. What does this mean for weed control options and how does a stacked-trait hybrid factor in to crop rotation management?
To answer those questions, Shaun Haney is joined by Bruce Mackinnon, technical service specialist with BASF, on this Canola School episode to explain when a farmer might choose a stacked vs single trait hybrid and when it’s not the best fit. Plus, Mackinnon explains what decisions farmers need to make regarding weed targets and next year’s crop and field selection when considering a single vs stacked hybrid.
