Manitoba has a new chief veterinary officer.
Agriculture Minister Ron Kostyshyn announced the appointment of Dr. Glen Duizer as the province’s new chief vet on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
Duizer has worked with Manitoba Agriculture and the provincial vet office since 2005, and has previously served as Manitoba’s acting chief veterinary officer.
“Dr. Duizer’s extensive experience and expertise in animal health, emergency planning and response and epidemiology and his strong relationships with livestock and poultry stakeholders and veterinarians will help guide our work protecting animal and human health, and we are excited to welcome him to this role,” noted Kostyshyn.
The Manitoba Pork Council is pleased with Duizer’s appointment.
“We would like to welcome Dr. Duizer to his new role and want to congratulate him on this well-deserved appointment,” said Manitoba Pork general manager Cam Dahl. “In his time working in the office of the chief veterinarian, Dr. Duizer has maintained a collaborative approach while building a strong foundation of open and transparent communication.”
The chief vet’s role in Manitoba is to lead the province’s animal health, disease prevention and response programming, which includes dealing with pork production diseases, such as PED and PRRS, as well as foreign animal diseases, such as ASF, FMD, and HPAI.
He replaces Dr. Scott Zaari, who stepped down as CVO earlier this year.
