Lemken tillage and seeding tool finding a fit in North America

by

Over its 244-year history, Lemken has built a strong reputation for manufacturing tillage tools and in recent years the company has expanded its production to include seeders and planters.

In this report from Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show at Woodstock, Ont., Lemken marketing specialist Ivor Bernatsky discusses how the evolution of the company is reflected in the capabilities of the new Lemken Solitair DT, a lightweight disc harrow and seeding combination that integrates tillage and seeding to reduce erosion risks, conserve water, and manage pre-emergent weeds.

The Solitair DT features two rows of high-speed discs working to a four-inch depth and large tires for firming the soil. The European-style seeder offers 5.5 and 7-inch row spacing, primarily for cereals, and Bernatsky notes there are plans to test the machine to see how it works in North American soybeans and canola. He says the company is eager to work with farmers to better understand were it fits in Ontario and across Canada.

The machine features variable rate and sectional control, with an electronic metering system that allows for precise seeding in small areas.

Bernatsky adds that the Solitair DT, with a working width up to 30 feet, can cover a lot of land very precisely and sustainably from an environmental perspective. “We’re running at eight to 10 miles an hour at 30 feet with our nine-metre. That’s really equivalent to running a 60-foot air drill at four or five miles an hour.” Watch the report below.
