Dale Cowan has seen a lot of changes in agronomy and its application over his career.
Well known for his exploration of new technology, the AGRIS Co-operative agronomy strategy manager and member of the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame gets excited when he discusses the benefits digital technology is bringing to the practice of agronomy.
On this episode of the RealAgriculture Soybean School, Cowan shares how he is using the digital capabilities of the AGRIS myFS agronomy app to more effectively manage an 81-acre soybean field in Mount Brydges, Ont.
With tablet in hand and a drone tracking his movement across the field, Cowan looks at how the app integrates machine data, satellite imagery and weather data and enhances decision-making and communication between agronomists and growers. The app also facilitates real-time updates, including scouting reports, reducing the need for manual data collection.
The entire process is traceable, cataloged, and seamless, providing transparency and efficiency in field management, says Cowan. Everything from population counts to weed control to fungicide applications can be facilitated and tracked in the app by the farmer and the retailer to ensure field operations are managed efficiently.
And at the end of the season, a full digital record is available for the farmer and agronomist to review to determine what worked worked well and what could be improved, adds Cowan. Watch the video below.
