Markets in the U.S. experienced a bounce this week from the downward trend that they were on due to packers running smaller fed-cattle kills in the last few weeks. That support under the cutout has been supporting the cash markets.
The select spread has widened again which continues to confirm that demand for those high quality middle meats is just “solid as heck.”
Anne Wasko of Gateway Livestock Exchange joins RealAgriculture’s Shaun Haney in this week’s Beef Market Update to discuss recent movement in the beef markets which are being impacted by the upcoming holidays, and may also be affected by the Canadian government’s temporary break on sales tax and a lower Canadian dollar supporting the country’s cattle prices as the year comes to a close.
In this episode, the duo also discuss the bred heifer and cattle market and Wasko says that it’s looking like super demand and super interest with the prices starting off higher than last year, likely due to the bred market finally catching up to what is going on in the feeder market.
