Drew Spoelstra has been re-elected to a second, one-year term as president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA).
The Binbrook, Ont., dairy and crop farmer was chosen to lead the provincial farm lobby at an executive meeting following the conclusion of the organization’s annual convention in Toronto this week.
“I appreciate the trust and confidence that my fellow board members have placed in me to lead this organization for another year,” says Spoelstra. “Food and farming touches all Ontarians in many different ways. It’s a major pillar of the provincial economy so it’s important for Ontario agriculture’s voice to be heard by decision-makers and we will continue to make that a priority in the year to come.”
Spoelstra is joined on the OFA executive by vice presidents Ethan Wallace and Sara Wood, and executive member Paul Maurice.
RealAgriculture’s Bernard Tobin spoke with Spoelstra just after the election announcement to discuss what OFA sees as the challenges and priorities for the organization and Ontario agriculture in 2025.
Spoelstra says key issues include farmland preservation, hydro infrastructure, and the impact of potential U.S. tariffs. He also highlighted the need for reliable, affordable energy and OFA’s support for local food production and the Grow Ontario strategy. Listen to the interview below.
