AI model becomes a PhD assistant in your pocket

by

Google and ChatGPT have been giving farmers the answers to many of their agronomy questions for a while now.

Artificial intelligence (AI) programs such as ChatGPT use information that is publicly available on the internet to answer questions that are typed into the prompt. The better the prompt, the better answers a person is likely to get. FBN has taken this idea to a new level with Norm, their AI model, which has been specifically trained in agronomy, says Charles Baron of FBN.

Because Norm has been trained with agricultural knowledge that may not be available on the internet, it can help a grower do more complex tasks such as helping them understand what the legal restrictions on a product may be, how to mix products and even what adjuvants can go with a product, Baron explains.

While Norm will not replace the need for human interpretation and advice, it is like having a PhD assistant in your pocket, he says. One that can help with not just chemistry, but animal health, livestock and even machinery.

Listen below as RealAgriculture’s Shaun Haney and Charles Baron discuss Norm and the uptake of online seed and crop protection products at the National Association of Farm Broadcasters’ convention in Kansas City.
