Wireless technology has been making its way into almost every aspect of life and continues to make its way into modern seeding equipment.
Jordan Henderson, territory sales manager for Bourgault Industries, explains how the company has spent the last five years designing the new Bourgault Intelligent Control (BiC) seed controller. The controller has been used for the last three seasons and has already seeded over 50,000 acres, Henderson says.
One of the main features of the BiC controller is its wireless interface. While growers will receive a 13-inch iPad and mount when they order a unit, the app can easily be used on another iPad in the event of an accident or slip, says Henderson. The ability to take the iPad out of the cab means that calibrations can be done on the ground. It also means that if a tractor goes down, there is no need to move wiring: instead growers can just move the iPad from one tractor to another.
Some other features that the BiC seed controller offers are in-house support for the software, a simplified one-page user interface, and integration with major manufacturers’ tractor monitors.
The BiC seed controller will have limited availability for the 2026 year and then will be more widely available going forward, says Henderson.
