The all-mighty dollar, biofuel indecision, and trade friction weigh on commodity markets

by

There isn’t an abundance of good news in grain markets right now, but there’s no shortage of things to talk about.

For this RealAg Markets update, RealAg Radio host Shaun Haney is joined by Tyler Schau, with AgMarket.Net, to get a bead on how farmers are feeling about the general ag economy and to check in on what to watch for in the coming months.

Schau says that there is a feeling of frustration in biofuel processing circles, as the industry continues to wait for guidance on 45z and the future of renewable fuel policy, which weighs on the veg oil complex. There’s the trade friction between Canada and the U.S. and disrupted demand flows, too. Plus, an appreciating U.S. dollar will continue to create both purchasing opportunities for some while pricing others out of the market.

When it comes to wheat, Schau says there may be a glimmer of good news, as carryout levels aren’t as high as they have been in recent memory.
