Cross-border communication key in face of tariff uncertainty, says ag minister

The unpredictability of what’s going to happen on the tariff front has put Canadian businesses and government officials in a situation where it’s difficult to know what, if any, steps can be taken to alleviate the uncertainty around U.S. business in the immediate future.

With so much up in the air, maintaining cross-border communication is critical, notes Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ron Kostyshyn.

“We can speculate all we want, but we’re working with industry on the U.S. side that buys a lot of our product,” he says, in the interview below. “A prime example is the Iowa pork industry — they buy 3.5 million weanlings from our province alone… so the communication continues to happen… they need to work with their government on the U.S. side, and hopefully we can come to a common place and continue the trade relationship that’s historical and benefits both sides.”
