Delegates at the Canadian Federation of Agriculture’s annual general meeting in Ottawa this week elected a pair of new vice-presidents to the national farm organization’s executive.
Keith Currie of Ontario was re-elected by acclamation as president, while Jill Verwey of Manitoba and Stéphanie Levasseur of Quebec are joining CFA’s executive as first vice-president and second vice-president. All three elections were uncontested.
Verwey, pictured above, is also the president of Keystone Agricultural Producers. She steps into the role previously held by Todd Lewis of Saskatchewan, who was appointed to the Senate earlier this month.
Levasseur also serves as a vice-president of l’Union des producteurs agricoles (UPA). She takes over for her Quebec counterpart Pierre Lampron, who also serves as the president of Dairy Farmers of Canada.
The CFA membership passed 18 resolutions on Wednesday covering a range of issues, including international trade, conservation, climate change, labour, rural infrastructure, crop protection, and risk management.
