Review, repair, and replace to avoid equipment downtime

by

Working, reliable equipment is a necessity on the farm, and we don’t just mean the tractors.

Pieces of portable equipment such as augers and conveyors can easily be forgotten in the rush to get the job done, but the process of reviewing equipment that is on the farm, and then making the decision to repair or replace said equipment, is paramount to keeping operations running smoothly, says Dave Poppel of AGI in this interview recorded at the Western Canadian Crop Production Show at Saskatoon, Sask..

Poppel says that anytime post-harvest is a great time to start what AGI has coined as the review, repair, and replace process. He goes on to say, “we may have gone through a harvest season where it was a little harder on the auger, so maybe we need to do some repairs, or maybe that auger was a little bit undersized and we need to get something a little larger on the farm.”

The need to cut back on time in the farmyard, or the need for capacity, could be reasons that a grower might want to consider replacing aged equipment with something more innovative and efficient, says Poppel.

When it comes to repairing equipment, Poppel says that the AGI website is a great place to find components, as the site hosts part diagrams to all of their machines, making it easy for farmers to make a list of what they need before they get to the dealer.
