There can be risks associated with being online, however simple steps can help enhance online security when it comes to threats such as phishing schemes (fraudulent emails, messages, websites intended to gain access to personal information), data breaches, and malware (malicious software that includes viruses and spyware).
In his role as executive vice president and chief information officer at Farm Credit Canada (FCC), Travis Asmundson is tasked with leading the technology team. In this interview, recorded at the Crossroads Crop Conference at Edmonton, Alta., he says one of the basic steps he recommends to safeguard personal information is creating good password habits. At a minimum, Asmundson recommends using different passwords for personal and business accounts and adding multi-factor authentication. He says that the most secure way to protect passwords is by using a password manager.
