PTx Trimble’s OutRun autonomous grain cart is winning praise after becoming the first commercially available autonomous retrofit grain cart solution for farmers.
At the Commodity Classic in Denver, Colorado, OutRun was awarded the Davidson Prize, which recognizes breakthrough innovations in agricultural engineering that improve efficiency, sustainability and productivity. The award is presented by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.
In this report, PTx Trimble’s Bryce Baker discusses how OutRun was designed as a cost-effective way to help farmers with labour issues, allowing operators to run both the combine and the grain cart during harvest.

The self-contained retrofit kit enables autonomous grain cart operation on John Deere 8R or 8000R tractors and will be commercially available on Fendt models in 2026. The grain cart can be staged or be called for unloading without the need for another driver. Once full, the combine operator can then send the grain cart to a predefined truck unload zone for manual unloading.
Baker notes that farmers will continue to see more products like OutRun as PTx Trimble continues to develop its autonomous platform. The company’s next product will likely be an autonomous tillage application, but no date has been set for its release.
