A bountiful harvest in the fall is great for a growers pocketbook, but it can also lead to an increase of straw residue that needs to be dealt with come spring.
In response to this need, Schulte has released the Soilstar DHX series of harrows that come in 36-foot (DHX 360) and 60-foot (DHX 600) options, says Mike Siroski of Schulte Industries at the Crop Production Show in Saskatoon, Sask.
What sets the Soilstar apart from its competitors, Siroski says, is a double row of coulter discs that have a fixed position of four degrees and a heavy five bar harrow with the ability to run with the discs down, or up, using hydraulics. This gives growers the flexibility to chop straw or harrow the field, effectively combining two tools in one, he says.
The hydraulic control system can be run in-cab through a touch screen monitor that allows the grower to adjust harrow pressure “on the fly” for varying field conditions.
“If you have hilly, uneven terrain, or if you have areas of trouble where the straw has been matted down and you don’t want to work as aggressively, you can adjust that all on the fly with the in-cab Schulte monitor,” says Siroski.
