Trevor Jones named Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness

After winning a new mandate to protect the Ontario economy against the ravages of Trump tariffs, Premier Doug Ford has unveiled the team that will join him around the Cabinet table.

After less than a year at the helm of the province’s agriculture ministry, MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London, Rob Flack leaves agriculture to take over the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing portfolio.

The new Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness is Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Trevor Jones. First elected in 2022, Jones won re-election last month as Ford’s Progressive Conservatives won 80 of Ontario’s 124 seats.

“As Ontario faces one of the greatest challenges in our history, workers and families are counting on us to stand up for their jobs and wellbeing,” said Ford after unveiling the Cabinet. “Our government will double down on our plan to build, train and reskill workers for better jobs and bigger paycheques, tear down internal trade barriers, retool companies for new customers in new markets, attract more investments and cut through red tape to develop our vast natural resources, including critical minerals in the Ring of Fire. No matter what, we will protect Ontario.”

Jones was born and raised in Leamington, Ont., where he lives with his wife, Najet, and their three sons. He has served as the party’s parliamentary assistant in agriculture and economic development.

Other key cabinet posts for the Ford government include:

Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health
Doug Downey, Attorney General
Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade
Paul Calandra, Minister of Education
Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance
Lisa Thompson, Minister of Rural Affairs
