AGCO pauses shipments of finished equipment into the U.S.

Another one of the world’s largest agricultural equipment manufacturers says it’s halting some shipments due to the uncertainty stemming from the Trump administration’s tariffs.

AGCO says finished equipment built for the U.S. market at production facilities outside the U.S. will be temporarily held outside the country, in an April 8 statement.

The company says the movement of parts into the U.S. is not affected by the decision. AGCO is also still shipping finished products made in the U.S. to other countries where there are no applicable tariffs.

“The U.S. and reciprocal tariff landscape remains very fluid. AGCO’s priority continues to be serving farmers around the world while minimizing tariff impact,” the company says.

CNH Industrial, the parent company of Case IH and New Holland, previously announced it was temporarily halting shipments from North American and European plants as of April 1, ahead of President Trump’s tariff announcement on April 2.

AGCO’s ag equipment portfolio includes the Fendt, Massey Ferguson, Precision Planting, PTx Trimble, and Valtra brands.

The company has its corporate headquarters in Duluth, Georgia, with manufacturing facilities in the U.S., Europe, China, and South America.

The American government’s tariffs on imports from China are slated to skyrocket to 104 per cent starting April 9th, while imports from the European Union will face a steep 20 per cent tariff.

“We are evaluating the best way to leverage our global footprint to continue delivering our high-quality products – especially those made in Europe – to farmers globally,” says AGCO.

As for movement of farm equipment between Canada and the U.S., farm machinery that meets the rules-of-origin requirements of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico (CUSMA or USMCA) trade deal is not subject to new or retaliatory tariffs.
