New Case IH planter configuration delivers spacing and fertilizer options

by

Growers will have access to a new configuration of Case IH’s Early Riser planter for crop year 2026.

The planter will be the 10th configuration of the Early Riser and feature a 90-foot wide frame, 24-rows, and 22-inch row spacing. In this interview from Commodity Classic in Denver, Colorado, Case IH planter marketing manager Dave Brennan says the 2160 Early Riser is a good fit for growers looking for a little wider option than the typical 15-row set up.

A unique frame design should also prove attractive for growers, says Brennan. “There’s no frame draft tubes. So those angled tubes that would support those wings are absent from this configuration. So accessibility into that mainframe area for seed clean out is second to none.”

Brennan says a lot of the changes are not visible to growers but there’s a lot going on “under the hood.” He notes that new electronics and controllers will bring additional information to the operator in the cab.

“We know growers are putting nutrients on more and more with that planter pass to help get that plant up early, get it started. We want to be able to visualize in the cab that per row liquid flow,” says Brennan. This includes how much fertilizer is being applied and any variance from row to row to ensure that one particular row isn’t being starved, which can have a significant impact on yield.

Other options include a concealed product liquid fertilizer option. “That’s a two-by-two-by-two application option, factory installed, that applies that liquid fertilizer about three inches off either side of the seed placement, and then up to an inch and a half deep,” notes Brennan. “It’s a great option for growers putting on a little higher rate of a nitrogen,” he adds.
