Getting current and staying current can be a challenge when it comes to precision agriculture and ever-evolving technology.
At the Commodity Classic in Denver, Colorado, RealAgriculture’s Bernard Tobin caught up with Kyle Barry, John Deere’s manager of precision upgrades marketing, to take a look at Precision Essentials, the company’s new precision ag hardware kit.
Barry says the new technology option will reduce upfront costs, making advanced precision agriculture technologies more accessible to farmers, growers and ranchers, regardless of the farm size, crop or livestock focus. The kit includes a G5 or G5Plus universal display, StarFire 7500 receiver and JDLink M or R modem.
Benefits of the new kit depend on the type of operation being managed. Deere says row crop farmers will benefit by utilizing the G5 display and StarFire 7500 receiver to help boost in-field productivity by maximizing every pass and allowing them to make data-driven decisions within the John Deere Operations Center.
For dairy and livestock operators, the M or R modem wirelessly streams data to the Operations Center, enabling them to remotely monitor field conditions, machine efficiency and health, and bale-by-bale metrics, the company says. In addition, leveraging the kit’s precise guidance and data accuracy will help achieve precise seeding, fertilization and harvest of forage crops.
