Overall Canadian tractor sales only positive story in April equipment sales report

by

Canadian sales are a bright light in the April 2025 Ag Tractor & Combine reports released by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).

Including April sales, so far this year Canadian sales of all agricultural tractors have increased 3.4%, while sales of 4-wheel-drive tractors have jumped 46.3% during the same time frame. The month of April, however, was a negative month for sales with Canadian sales of total farm tractors dropping by 5.5% compared to the same month in 2024; 4-wheel-drive tractor sales also dipped in April, declining by 5.3% compared to April 2024.

When it comes to the U.S., the first four months of 2025 saw a drop in all categories, with total agricultural tractor sales down 13.3% and combines falling 48.3%. April was also a challenging month for sales. Compared to the same month in 2024, total sales of farm tractors dropped by 12.3% while 4-wheel-drive tractor sales also fell, declining by 41.5%.

“The April report of slow tractor and combine sales is reflective of the overall softness in the ag economy. Increased input prices, high interest rates, and global trade concerns are leading to farmers taking more of a cautious approach to their capital investments,” says Curt Blades, AEM’s senior vice president. “With planting season underway, we remain optimistic the ag economy will improve, leading to a strengthening of the ag equipment market.”
