Prime Minister Mark Carney announced his new lineup of parliamentary secretaries on Thursday.
As expected, Nova Scotia MP Kody Blois, who was passed over for the cabinet role of agriculture minister, was named Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister.
Sophie Chatel, MP from western Quebec, was re-appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food. She held the role for nine days in March between Carney's Liberal leadership win and the start of the federal election.
Chatel has a background in accounting and tax policy. Prior to becoming an MP in 2021, Chatel worked for the Canada Revenue Agency, Finance Canada, and the OECD's Centre for Tax Policy and Administration.
Parliamentary secretaries are usually expected to support their minister in House of Commons' duties, working with department staff, and in representing them in meetings and events.
