Ken Ferrie wants you to slow the planter down. And then stop. Yes, really. While the planting season is a hectic one, rushing, especially in wet conditions, is a recipe for disaster. Ferrie, an independent agronomist, wants farmers to slow down and better match planter speed to planting conditions. What’s more, he wants you to stop in the worst part of the field and get down and evaluate the job that planter is doing.
In this interview, Bernard Tobin asks Ferrie to run-down his list of the top three planter mistakes farmers make. Ferrie takes it one step further and challenges each farmer to head back to the field once planting is done and take down some very specific notes and numbers. This is one interview you want to watch before you head out planting corn this spring!
