Growing a bumper crop of corn requires a big meal of plant nutrients. But if you’re going to feed a hulk of a plant, you’ve got to make sure you protect it too. Fungicides may not always be warranted, but if the yield potential is there and conditions are right for disease development, a fungicide application can preserve that yield potential.

In this Corn School, Aaron Stevanus, market agronomist with PRIDE Seeds, talks about the proper time to be scouting your corn crop, where to look depending on the disease you’re looking for, and where first symptoms may occur depending on if the disease is residue borne or spread by wind.
Stevanus also explains why some later planted corn has a higher susceptibility to disease, which may mean these fields need to be scouted first or more often to ensure a protective spray. Watch the video for that and more!
