Everyone has an aunt or an uncle or someone that uses “blanket” terminology. You know what I mean, they call blu rays and CD’s DVD’s or call all mp3 players “iPods”. We’re all guilty of it on some level, but the truth is terminology is important. Just ask Tony Vyn about using the terms “drought resistant” and “drought tolerant” interchangeably. He’ll tell you straight away that there is no such thing as drought resistance in corn. He’ll also be quick to tell you that drought tolerance traits in hybrid corn won’t offer you a silver bullet against dry conditions.
There are however, things you can do to try and help those traits perform to the best of their abilities. In this episode of the Corn School, Dr Tony Vyn talks about some of the factors that help or hinder those “drought TOLERANT” traits in corn.
