Corn School: No second chances for hitting your population target

by

Planting season can be a busy, chaotic time, but not paying attention to details, such as variation in seed size, can be costly and impact yield potential for the rest of the growing season.

“There are no second chances as it relates to population. What you put in the ground now is what will make your yield. Even missing five or six plants, that’s an easy 30 to 50, 60 dollars per acre that you’re missing,” notes Dieter Schwarz, corn and soybean market development manager for Canterra Seeds, in this more western-themed Corn School episode.

Knowing seed size, you can adjust the planter vacuum or, in some cases, change plates to hit your target population.

Schwarz also follows up on the recent flex- versus fixed-ear hybrid Corn School episode and what it means for planting populations for growers in Western Canada.
