Rain or shine, drought or not, nitrogen is king when it comes to targeting the highest yields possible in corn. While it may not be a surprise that even in a dry year corn responds to added nitrogen, there’s still work to be done on the economic levels of that response with environmental stewardship in mind. That’s just one of the many conclusions being drawn from the past few years’ trials of corn’s response to seeding rate, nitrogen rates and fungicide use and timing.
In this episode of the Corn School, PRIDE Seeds’ Ken Currah recaps the lessons learned from both the 2011 and 2012 300 Bushel Initiative. He discusses some interesting findings when the two years are compared side by side, drives home the importance of soil fertility management and reveals the top yield achieved in the trials for 2012. Stay tuned as well, as PRIDE is launching a similar initiative for soybeans in 2013.
