Corn School: The Top 5 Limiting Factors of Corn Production

Farming would be much, much easier and far less risky if we could control the weather. We can’t, of course, so the first point of any “most limiting factor” list — the weather — is always moot. After that, though, there are several management factors well within farmers’ control that deserve some attention when gunning for top yields.

Dr. Joe Lauer, professor of agronomy at University of Wisconsin-Madison, spoke recently at the FarmSmart conference at Guelph, Ont. There, he offered up his top five most limiting factors of corn production and how farmers can manage them. In this video, he expands on hybrid selection, ideal planting date and the year over year yield penalties of continuous corn.
