Once your corn is in storage, the story isn’t over. There are still some aspects that need controlling and monitoring in order to maintain the value and quality of your crop. Conditioning your corn isn’t as simple as turning on the fan. Proper airflow is essential to even and effective aeration of your crop. Anything that keeps that air from doing its job needs to be dealt with as quickly as possible. Also any pest issues native to your bin space should be looked at prior to storage if possible. That means proper cleaning of your bin space as well as your aeration and drying system.

This week on the Corn School, Helmut Spieser from OMAFRA addresses some of the issues involved in proper corn storage to ensure you hold quality and to ensure that the profit you have worked so hard for is maintained.
