Soybean growers will get their first opportunity to grow Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans in 2017. They’ll also get to see how Engenia, BASF’s new dicamba formulation, performs with the new seed technology.
In this episode of Real Agriculture’s Soybean School, we travel to BASF’s research farm at Maryhill, Ont., to check out Engenia Roundup Ready 2 Xtend plots with Rob Miller, BASF field biologist and technical development specialist.
Miller explains that Engenia provided strong residual weed control in the 2016 plots. “It looks better in a dry year than it does in a wet year because dicamba is very water soluble,” explains Miller. He notes that residual activity can be variable based on soil type, weather conditions and rainfall. “In a wet year you get less residual because it moves down in the soil profile. In a dry year it looks a little bit sharper.”
Miller also takes a look at how Engenia (Group 4) can team up with Kixor (Group 14) and Pursuit (Group 2) to provide multiple modes of action to keep soybeans weed-free during the critical weed-free period.
