As if 2010 hasn’t brought enough challenges for Western Canadian farmers, now we have the potential of a railway strike in our midst. The conductors at CN rail are talking tough about several issues and a settlement does not seem near.
Richard Phillips is the Executive Director of the Grain Growers of Canada and he is very concerned. Â He is not only concerned about grain backing up in the system but also the negative affects on Canada’s reputation internationally to deliver logistically when we promised to. Â Phillips believes that a railway shutdown will not sit well with international grain buyers who are expecting Canadian grain to be delivered on time. Â Phillips believes that a back to work order will be the governments only choice.
