The Impact of a Potential Railway Strike to Canadian Farmers – Richard Phillips

by

As if 2010 hasn’t brought enough challenges for Western Canadian farmers, now we have the potential of a railway strike in our midst. The conductors at CN rail are talking tough about several issues and a settlement does not seem near.

Richard Phillips is the Executive Director of the Grain Growers of Canada and he is very concerned.  He is not only concerned about grain backing up in the system but also the negative affects on Canada’s reputation internationally to deliver logistically when we promised to.  Phillips believes that a railway shutdown will not sit well with international grain buyers who are expecting Canadian grain to be delivered on time.  Phillips believes that a back to work order will be the governments only choice.
