Looking to add 15 to 20 bushels to your winter wheat yield? Depending on your base fertility level, seed-placed phosphorus could do the trick.
In this episode of Wheat School, Real Agriculture resident agronomist Peter Johnson takes you on a tour of long-term phosphorus and potash trials at Lucan, Ontario.
“In these research trials, we’re seeing that at the very least, having good base fertility is giving us an additional 10 bushels per acre in wheat yield,” says Johnson. The story gets even more impressive in poor base fertility plots where seed-placed phosphorous can push yields up 15 to 20 bushels.
“That’s a really big yield gain with seed-placed phosphorous. It just drives home the point of how significant phosphorus fertility is in the wheat crop,” stresses Johnson. “To be a real wheat grower, you need phosphorus with the seed.”
